About the Business
Established in 1900 this makes us one of the oldest family run businesses in Scotland. At its peak in the mid twentieth century there were over a thousand people that worked within Thirty Ballot Road, the site of the Ayrshire Storage centre. The Hosiery Manufacturing Company or known locally as Watson's Hosiery, specialized in manufacturing knitted textiles.
This provided many jobs, especially for women for whom until now employment within this district was very limited. It wasn't uncommon for three generations of the same family to have worked together. This increase in employment dramatically changed the land scape of Irvine.
